Customer lifetime value
Also called: CLV, LTV, lifetime value
Customer lifetime value is the total profit a customer is expected to generate across the whole relationship, not just their first order. It sets the ceiling on what acquisition can spend and decides which segments deserve retention investment. Two versions get confused: historical CLV measures what past customers actually did, predicted CLV models what current ones will do. Use margin rather than revenue, and state the time horizon, because an unbounded lifetime value cannot be checked against anything.
